Sensory-Motor Intervention

  • Sensory-motor intervention is a structured activity or programme in which a child uses large or small muscle groups to participate in and respond to vestibular, proprioceptive, or tactile input. (Refer to sensory pages for further information in this area).

  • Research shows that sensory play builds nerve connections in the brain's pathways, which lead to the child's ability to complete more complex learning tasks. Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction.

  • Sensory-motor interventions typically last 45 minutes followed by a 15 minute consultation.

This can be done as a home based intervention or within the school setting.
