Olfactory Sense - This is our sense of smell

Over-responsive

These children feel distracted by smells or struggle with certain smells which may make them feel nauseous. These students may avoid eating in the dining hall or restaurants, struggle with public toilets or find it hard to be around people that are wearing perfume or cologne. They may struggle with lessons such as cookery or science when completing experiments.

Under-responsive

These children seek out certain smells and can be unaware of other smells. They may prefer certain smells e.g. a perfume or lotion and seek this smell. They may not recognise other smells e.g. food that has gone off.
